ONLINE CHILD CAR RESTRAINT RECALLS TRIGGER ACCC ALERT

A second recall of unsafe child car restraints by online traders has prompted a serious safety alert from Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Deputy Chair,  Peter Kell.

Ebay trader Doreen 3058 supplied the WORWO baby car seats via eBay Australia in May and June this year. The seats were manufactured by Taizhou Ganen Car Appliance Co. Ltd.

"These baby car seats breach the mandatory safety standard for child restraint systems for use in vehicles," Mr Kell said. "They were supplied without an upper tether strap. In the event of a car accident this breach poses risks of serious injury or death.

Most brekky cereals still failing kids PDF Print E-mail

A CHOICE survey of breakfast cereals has found only two of those aimed at children are really suitable for everyday eating. Many of the products aimed at kids were among the worst examples of excessive sugar and sodium levels.

While Sanitarium's Weet-Bix Kids was recommended because of its 11% of dietary fibre, the same company's Skippy Corn Flakes managed to cram 50% of a small child's daily maximum for sodium into just one 30-gram serve.

FOOD ADDITIVES, HEALTH & BEHAVIOUR: UPDATE PROVIDED BY SNEAKYS

Where once we blamed sugar for the wayward behaviour of our children, we now know that it is far more likely to be a chemical of some sort.
